Welcome to the information page for Croatia. Here you can find information about the Croatian Herpes Management Forum (CroHMF).

Mission statement

The CroHMF was established in 2005 under the patronage of the Croatian Society for Infectious Diseases to:
increase the awareness and understanding of the impact of herpesvirus infections on Croatian society, improve the knowledge, management and counseling of herpesvirus infections among Croatian medical professionals, to set up national guidelines for the management of specific herpesvirus infections and infections with Human papilloma virus.

The CroHMF board

The CroHMF board comprises medical doctors of varying specialties, including gynecology and obstetrics, dermatology and venereology, clinical microbiology and herpes virus research.

Activities and future plans:

Publications and educational activities:

  • Assembling medical professionals and experts for designing epidemiological studies and statistics for HSV infections and genital herpes disease in Croatia.
  • Educational brochures/leaflets about sexually transmitted diseases (HIV, HPV, HSV) for students of primary and secondary schools.
  • Guidelines for the management of HPV and HSV infection.
  • Articles in magazines about genital herpes disease, which provide information on genital herpes to both the general public and healthcare professionals.

Establish the IHF as the authoritative source of information on herpes for healthcare providers and decision makers in Croatia.

Awareness and management activities:

Combining two different approaches for genital herpes management, on the individual and population levels, i.e. in preventing the transmission to uninfected people and educational activities to limit spread of disease with extra attention directed to high risk populations.
Promoting education activities in schools about the danger of sexually transmitted diseases and sexual education in general.
