The program is oriented towards fundamental interdisciplinary research of structure, dynamics, properties and transformation of molecules. The detailed knowledge of these phenomena represents a fundamental scientific interest by itself. In addition it is an origin for development of molecular engineering which is one of the starting point for creating new materials, as well as for understanding complex processes in biology and medicine at the molecular level. These investigations offer new challenges within the experimental and theoretical research. The proposed program is based on interdisciplinary investigations and collaborations between eight experimental and two theoretical projects. Due to the large area of possible research the proposed program will be restricted to some representative molecules and molecular structures, which are essential for the above mentioned scientific interest and applications. In the framework of this project molecular systems ranging from rather simple molecules (such as ozone, alanine, substituted benzenes and various metallo-organic complexes) to complex supramolecular assemblies (polymers, liposomes, lipoproteins etc) will be investigated. The various types of experimental methods mostly based on spectroscopy (IR, UV-Vis, NMR, MS, ESR) in combination with other chemical methods and strong laser pulses will be employed to provide information on molecular properties. The undertaken investigations carried out in the proposed projects and projects collaboration at the program level are relevant for series of applications such as: (i) creating new materials with desired properties such as molecular magnets, supramolecular colloids and special polymers, (ii) medical applications involving pharmacologically important biomolecules for the development of efficient drug delivery systems, (iii) environmental importance in closely monitoring molecular reactivity processes in the atmosphere and (iv) creating additional base for introducing new advanced theoretical and experimental methods into education process. http://zprojekti.mzos.hr/page.aspx?pid=97&lid=2
