Seminar: Radiation Methods in the Protection of Cultural Heritage Artifacts

A seminar entitled Radiation Methods in the Protection of Cultural Heritage Artifacts, organized by the Radiation Chemistry and Dosimetry Laboratory of the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) and the Croatian Conservation Institute will be held on October 4 and 5, 2011.

The goal of the seminar is to familiarize conservators, conservator-restorers, curators and all professionals involved in the maintenance, preservation and presentation of cultural heritage artifiacts, as well as owners and users, with methods that employ radiation.

In addition to participation by experts from the IAEA, Quoc K. Trana of the laboratory ARC-Nucléart, Grenoble, France (www.arc-nucleart.fr), will discuss the following topics of Radiation Methods in the Disinsection and Disinfection of Cultural Heritage Artifacts, on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, in the Multimedia Auditorium of the Mimara Museum and Radiation Methods in the Consolidation of Deteriorated Cultural Heritage Artifacts, on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the Croatian Conservation Institute.

The seminar will be held within the framework of a project of technical cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), TC Project RER/8/015: Using Nuclear Techniques for the Characterization and Preservation of Cultural Heritage Artifacts in the European Region.
