The main goal of this project is the investigation and understanding of magneto-structural correlations in the newly synthesized metal-organic complexes. Synthesis and investigation of magnetic properties of these complexes will be performed in the frame of collaboration between Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) and Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) Zagreb.

New molecular magnetic complexes such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), coordination polymers (CPs) and discrete transition-metal complexes will be synthesized in the Laboratory for Green Synthesis (Dr. Krunoslav Užarević) and in Laboratory for Supramolecular Chemistry (Dr. Zoran Džolić) at the RBI Zagreb. Spectroscopic characterization by means of Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies, as well as structural characterization by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction will be performed at RBI Zagreb.

Magnetic properties of the newly synthesized complexes will be fully studied by means of magnetization measurements at the IFW Dresden, Continuous-Wave (CW) and pulsed X-band electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, Electron Nuclear Double Resonance (ENDOR) and Hyperfine Sub-Level Correlation (HYSCORE) at the RBI Zagreb, and High-Field/High-Frequency ESR (HF-ESR) spectroscopy at the IFW Dresden. The obtained experimental results will be analyzed by means of modelling and simulation with the aim to describe the magnetic properties of the new complexes and to understand the correlation between the structure and magnetism.
