EPR spectrometer Bruker EMX CW
On the platform of NMR magnet Varian 7300 scientists from the Laboratory for magnetic resonances RBI put together an X-band EPR spectrometer in the continuous (CW) working mode. It has been financed from the own project resources: MZO (MZO (dr. sc. Boris Rakvin), HrZZ project-SPES (dr. sc. Marina Ilakovac Kveder) and EU structural funds project AVACS (coordinator for RBI is dr. sc. Marina Ilakovac Kveder). The value of the instrument is more than 1.500.000,00 kn (the last purchase, the magnet power supply, costed about 800.000,00 kn) as the spectrometer is equipped beside the magnet also with the microwave bridge, the source of microwaves, cryostat, allowing liquid helium temperature, as well as with various resonator cavities. This spectrometer is unique in Croatia as it allows to gain magnet induction of 1.9 T and has large magnetic sweep, especially important for studying metal centres in (bio)materials. These characteristics secure the possibility to upgrade the spectrometer to higher EPR frequencies in the future, like Q-band, which is a standard in the characterization of materials.
