Development of a system of control and defense of ports against the introduction of foreign species
Principal investigator
Ship ballast water is an important vector for the transfer of foreign, invasive alien and toxic species and pathogens across natural barriers. Their harmfulness is manifested in ecosystem disturbances and/or negative impact on human health and/or economy (tourism, fishing and mariculture). Climate changes will improve the success of the adaptation of introduced organisms, which will increase the extent of their influence. The goal of the project is the development of a system of control and defense of the harbor against the potential introduction of organisms, which will reduce the vulnerability of the coastal area to climate change. Public, state and private institutions from the domain of maritime, environmental protection and health, educational institutions and the public will be informed about this issue and the results of the project.
