Determining the history of antropogenic influence on sediments in Port of Rijeka

We studied metal pollution in the sediments of Rijeka harbor, including anthropogenic influence during recent decades and at the present time.

2008, client The Port of Rijeka Authority (http://www.portauthority.hr/, head of the project Ph.D. Neven Cukrov

Principal investigator: dr.sc. Neven Cukrov

Significado ambiental (climático e hidrológico) de registros tobáceos fluviales de la Cordillera Ibérica monitorizados entre 1999 y 2009.Comparación con otros registros recientes y antiguos

Comparison of paleoenvironmental data from tufa precipitate in Croatia, Slovenia and Spain.

Determination of ecotoxic metals in water environment of Rijeka harbor using passive samplers

Continuous monitoring of trace metal concentrations in the Port of Rijeka using passive samplers („Diffusive Gradients in Thin films – DGT“).

2011.-2012., client The Port of Rijeka Authority (http://www.portauthority.hr/,) head of the project Ph.D. Neven Cukrov

Principal investigator: dr.sc. Neven Cukrov

Trace metals analysis in subterranean waters of Petruševec water well’s

Trace metals analysis in subterranean waters of Petruševec water well’s, as attempt to achieve real concentrations.Client City of Zagreb

Principal investigator: dr.sc. Neven Cukrov

Calibrations of paleoenvironmental records in (sub)recent tufa

The aim of the study was to compare for the first time environmental records (stable isotope ratios, metal concentrations and radionuclide activities) obtained from the recent tufa with those from ambient water where tufa precipitated for the first time.

Principal investigator: dr.sc. Neven Cukrov

Influence of the water mass circulation on spatial and temporal distribution of ecotoxicants in Malo jezero and Veliko jezero lakes of Mljet National Park

The distribution pattern of ecotoxic trace metals Cd, Co, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn in marine lakes (Malo jezero and Veliko jezero), which could be harmful for the water ecosystem biodiversity of the Mljet National Park, will be established

Principal investigator: dr.sc. Vlado Cuculić

Integration of geo-chemical laboratory techniques, in situ field measurement, and hyperspectral air-borne remote sensing for environmental risk assessment

The aim of the proposed bilateral project is to start a long term co-operation between two departments having similar scientific interests and results in the field of analysis and risk assessment of environmental heavy metal contamination, however, using different research approaches. Combining the techniques, which are, even separately, at the frontline of scientific applications, an integrated, highly precise and generally applicable method will be developed, validated and tested. Three approaches will be integrated including high scale hyperspectral air-borne imaginary of high resolution, X-ray fluorescent spectrometry for non-destructive in situ measurement with many sampling points to work out adequate and most reliable sampling strategy, and high tech laboratory techniques for geochemical analyses.

Hydrogeological investigations of the upper flow of Kupa River and its tributaries

The main objective of the project is to perform hydrogeological investigations to define exact origin of water of the Kupa River.

Hypothesis is that the sources of Kupa and Rječina rivers (belonging to Black Sea and Adriatic Sea watersheds respectively) both originate from the same groundwater body situated at the boundary of the two watersheds under the mountain Risnjak. The two sources are at the distance of 22 km, at 313 and 385 meters above sea level, respectively.
