European patent granted to Dubravka Hršak, Ph.D.
The method developed by Dr. Hršak is a biotechnological process based on bioremediation principles, which is a more environmentally suitable and less expensive solution than the classic physical-chemical methods currently used in the world. By simply spraying a certain amount of microbial culture over the soil or mixing it into wastewater, Atrazine is degraded naturally, efficiently and with no hazardous byproducts. By binding onto some porous inert carrier, the culture can degrade Atrazine and other S-triazine pesticides directly, even in running water. According to experts, this patent has great commercial potential.
