Lecture at the RBI by Prof. Zlatko Bačić, Ph.D.

Prof. Zlatko Bačić, Ph.D., is prominent scientist in the fields of theoretical and computational chemistry and chemical physics. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He completed his doctoral studies in theoretical chemistry at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, USA. He pursued postdoctoral studies at the Max-Planck-Institut für Strömungsforschung in Goettingen, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, University of Chicago and the Los Alamos National Laboratory. During this period, he also spent time at the Institute of Physics in Zagreb. In 1988, he became an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry, New York University, where he is a full professor today. He has been a visiting professor at the Max-Planck Institute in Goettingen, University of Bern, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich and the Ruđer Bošković Institute (as a Fulbright Scholar). For several years, he has been a visiting professor at the East China Normal University in Shanghai, and starting in April of this year at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.

He has made outstanding contributions to the theory of the dynamics and spectroscopy of polyatomic molecules with large-amplitude vibrations, weakly bound molecular clusters, and hydrogen molecules in the nanocavities of various materials. In recognition of these achievements, in 2009 he was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society. He is the author of 101 scientific papers published in leading scientific journals, which have been cited more than 3,700 times.
