Paper by RBI Scientists Published in the American Journal of Pathology

Aug 1st 2011

The American Journal of Pathology (IF: 5.22), the leading journal in pathology research, published a paper by RBI scientists Dr. Ivica Kopriva (ZLAIR), Dr. Mirka Hadžija, Dr. Marijana Popović-Hadžija, Dr. Marina Korolija (ZMM) and Dr. Andrzej Cichocki (RIKEN, Japan), entitled  "Rational Variety Mapping for Contrast-Enhanced Nonlinear Unsupervised Segmentation of Multispectral Images of Unstained Specimen". One of the results of the study was published on the front page of the journal.

The paper presents a method for enhancing the contrast of the multispectral images of a histopathological specimen of an algorithm of nonlinear segmentation. On two experimental unstained specimens, contrast was achieved comparable to that of a stained specimen. With further refinement, it should be possible to develop methods for the nonlinear segmentation of multispectral images, which would eliminate the need for staining in clinically important applications.
