Project awarded with 100.000 €

The project 'Metallated bioconjugates for applications in biological and material sciences' led by RBI returnee scientist Srećko Kirin, PhD, was awarded with 100.000,00 € by the 'National Foundation for Science’ (NZZ). The 'Homing Program' for returnee scientists was open for a period of three years (2006 – 2008). During this period a total of 23 applications were submitted, of which 10 projects were granted support.

The project is based on the research of conjugates that consist of metal complexes with biomolecules, in particular with amino acids, peptides, nucleic acids and their analogues. The focus of the study is on the biological and catalytic properties of the metallated bioconjugates, with a potential for broad applications in the fields of biomedicine and material sciences.
