The Zetasizer Ultra (Malvern Panalytical) instrument provide the ability to:

  • measure the size, size distribution, charge and concentration of micro and nanoparticles
  • studies of dispersions stability
  • optimization of nanoparticle synthesis
  • characterization of model membranes (liposomes, micelles)
  • characterization of polymers solutions, proteins
  • etc

Instrumental features:

Principle of work: dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering

Light source: 632.8 nm red laser, He-Ne 10 mW

Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS): foward (13°),  side (90°) and back (173°) scattering

Particle size: measuring range: 0.3 nm – 10 μm

Minimum sample volume: 3 μL

Zeta potential: measuring range: no limitations;    minimum sample volume: 20 mL

Maximum sample conductivity: 260 mS/cm

 Additional characteristics:

Multi-Angle Dynamic Light Scattering (MADLS): 3 detection angles → individual results as well as an unique result of all scattering angles → real image of the sample

ZS Xplorer software: a) Quality guidance system, automatic advice how to improve measurement; b) Adaptive Correlation: automatically adjust parameters, shorter measurement duration, more sub-runs → intelligent data: reliable and repeatable data → representative view of the sample

Particle concentration: measuring range: 1´108 - 1´1012 particles/mL

Determination of concentration without previous calibration

Possibility of showing the total concentration of particles and the concentration of particles in a given distribution

Temperature control range: 0 - 120 °C

Variable measurement positioning inside cuvette

Fluorescence filter; Horizontal and vertical polarizers - the ability to distinguish translational from rotational diffusion – for anizotropic particles (rods, nanotubes...)
