Detection and identification of new viral pathogens, whether they arise naturally or as biological weapons, is crucial for the health and security of every country, including Croatia. There is currently no rapid and sufficiently sensitive method on the market that enables the detection of unknown viruses. The main goal of this project is to determine the technological feasibility of the VirusHunter method using specific baits for capturing any virus. The ability to detect new, previously unknown viral species and/or strains, whose emergence poses a significant epidemiological risk to society, will be of immeasurable importance for timely response, early reporting, and monitoring the spread of infection.
