Testing the efficiency of 14C mortar dating by extrapolating 14C results from the first two CO2 fractions obtained by hydrolysis of binder carbonate. Static and kinetic methods of collecting CO2 fractions are compared. Efficiency is tested on historical mortars of known age and on laboratory-synthesized mortars of known 14C activity.
