The project evaluates the possibility of 14C dating of mortars on monuments influenced by the Mediterranean climate. The research area is archaeological monuments/fortifications in the Kvarner Bay. The project approaches the research through:

1) characterizing the composition of the mortar and identifying regional variations in its metal composition,

2) identifying the state of deterioration of the mortar (binder) in the context of sea salt content and carbonate recrystallization, and

3) re-evaluating the current knowledge about existing archaeological monuments.
