Peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates as membrane-based antibacterial nanoagents (POC-MAN)
Principal investigator
Peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates as membrane antibacterial nanoagents (POC-MAN) project is based on
property of antimicrobial peptides (AMP) to recognize and enter the bacterial membrane bilayer, in combination with stable, biocompatible DNA nanopores. The prototype of the POC-MAN agent will be DNA nanopores with attached AMPs, which ensure targeting of bacterial membranes. AMP will bind to DNA nanopores by click-synthesis methods, reactions in an aqueous medium, under mild conditions, with high yields and no by-products. Since bacteria have not developed resistance to AMPs, POC-MAN agents have the potential to be bactericidal against strains that have developed resistance to multiple groups of antibiotics, which represents one of the biggest problems of modern medicine.
