Through the UUPSS-PAG project, Solana Pag d.o.o. and its partners—the University of Zagreb Faculty of Science (Department of Biology), the Ruđer Bošković Institute, and Gekom d.o.o.—are developing innovative solutions for more efficient salt production. Through industrial research and experimental development, Solana Pag and its partners monitor controlled microalgae growth to achieve faster water evaporation and shorten salt crystallization time while introducing a monitoring system for local microclimatic forecasts that provides timely warnings of rain, bora wind, and heatwaves. The project results integrate natural processes and digital tools to achieve a shorter and more stable salt crystallization process, higher yields, and lower risks in the production cycle. The developed methodology is also transferable to other production sectors sensitive to climate change.
