Spring field sampling (invertebrates)

Spring field sampling was conducted from 23rd to 26th March 2026, with the aim to collect samples after longterm low water discharge and water-level, before the occurrence of spring and summer rains and snow melting which lead to washout of agricultural surfaces, abandoned mine pits and various other diffuse sources of pollution.

At five sites (Sveti Martin, Mursko Središće, Podturen, Goričan, Kotoriba) and in river branches we have collected samples of the river-water for measurement of dissolved metal concentrations, we have measured physico-chemical parameters (dissolved oxygen, pH, water temperature, electrical conductivity), and sampled representatives of several groups of invertebrates (freshwater amphipod crustaceans, snails, and shellfish), the tissues of which (whole soft tissue or separate organs) were stored for further analyses of metals and biomarkers.
