KZI brings together whole-genome sequencing, bioinformatics and digital-identity technology. Its aim is a solution that lets individuals securely store and control their own genome in a digital ID wallet and receive an automated analysis of monogenic diseases.

Genomic data are the most sensitive personal data, and their secure storage and controlled use are a precondition for genomics in healthcare. The project investigates compression, encryption and digital watermarking of genomic data and their integration with a digital-identity platform. The Laboratory for Advanced Genomics develops the variant-calling pipeline for long-read whole-genome sequencing data and the monogenic-disease database on which the automated analysis is built. Within the project, the Laboratory is also acquiring a long-read genome sequencer.

Objectives

  • methods for compression, encryption and digital watermarking of genomic data
  • a bioinformatic pipeline for variant calling from long-read whole-genome data
  • a monogenic-disease database for automated analysis
  • a prototype system for storing the genome in an ID wallet

Expected results

A prototype "Identyum Genome" system, scientific publications, a patent application and EU trademark, and new research positions.
