10th Terry Fox Run in Zagreb
The traditional 10th Terry Fox Run will be held on 20 September at Zagreb’s Lake Jarun. This year`s event is jointly organized by the MPG Agency and the Embassy of Canada to Croatia in cooperation with the Croatian League Against Cancer, Zagreb Holding and the Regent Esplanade Zagreb hotel.
The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions across the globe in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope, with an aim to raise money for cancer research. This year, the money will go to the Ruđer Bošković Institute for research on breast and ovarian cancer.
The first Terry Fox run was in 1981 with 300,000 people taking part right across Canada. It raised 3.5 million dollars. Since then more than 400 million dollars has been raised globally to fund cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run. The spirit of the Run is captured in these words spoken by Terry Fox in 1980: "If you've given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope".
