Joint Research Program between Croatia and Israel

Jan 20th 2009

The joint research project ‘Molecular dynamics of S-Adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (SAHH) and its role in regulation of gene expression’ (dr. Oliver Vugrek and dr. Yaron Shav-Tal, Bar-Ilan University) has been awarded 50.000 US dollars per year for the next two years by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport of the State of Israel.

Specific aims of the project are: investigation whether specific methylation patterns are maintained during cell division in the context of SAHH deficiency or not; analysis of altered chromatin modification patterns by methylation specific DNA arrays; identification of new epigenetic markers important for regulation of gene expression; design and construction of custom DNA and protein arrays for methylation research; characterization of SAHH sub-cellular localization and dynamics; characterization of SAHH mutant forms with regard to distribution and cellular dynamics; characterization of disordered cellular processes in SAHH deficiency in regard to biological methylation.
