RBI Scientist Co-Authors Book Entitled Random Sequential Packing of Cubes

Apr 12th 2011

The 1-dimensional model is sometimes called the Parking Problem, which is known from the pioneering works by Flory (1939), Renyi (1958), and Dvoretzky and Robbins (1962). Classical analysis has to be studied in order to determine a 1-dimensional packing density, distribution of the minimum of gaps etc. However, the packing density of the general multi-dimensional random sequential packing of cubes (hypercubes) remains a well-known unsolved problem. This problem is usually approached using experimental analysis. The book presents simplified multi-dimensional models, which retain the character of the original general model, and introduces a combinatorial analysis for combinatorial modeling.
