Two Young RBI Scientists Receive Poster Prizes

Dr. Jasminka Popović, a scientific associate, and Martina Vrankić, a scientific assistant, of the Laboratory for Thin Films, Division of Materials Physics, Ruđer Bošković Institute, received poster prizes at the 44th course of the International School of Crystallography: The Power of Powder Diffraction.

The course was held from June 2 to 12, 2011, in Erice, Italy. Jasminka Popović was presented a poster prize for "Structure and microstructure of Sn-doped indium oxide" and Martina Vrankić for "Structural study of nanocrystalline Ti-doped gahnite". The criteria for the prizes were the originality and scientific significance of the topics presented, as well as the quality of the presentation. A total of five prizes were awarded, of which two went to young scientists from Switzerland, two to RBI scientists and one to a young scientist from Great Britain. The two young RBI scientists are engaged in the study of the structural properties of doped optoelectronic and ceramic nanomaerials suitable for various technological applications, using modern methods and techniques for testing polycrystalline samples – primarily the X-ray diffraction of polycrystals.
