HR ICP-MS - High Resoultion Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer, Element 2 Thermo
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is a technique in which inductively coupled plasma is used as the ionization source, while detection is performed by mass spectrometry. In HR-ICP-MS instruments, a high-resolution mass spectrometer is used. By combining the physical restriction of the ion beam as it passes through a narrow slit of variable dimensions with a specific mass spectrometer design (double focusing in electrostatic and magnetic fields), the instrument enables considerably more precise focusing of isotopes and operation at three different resolution settings (low, medium, and high). By selecting the appropriate resolution for each element, maximum separation of the isotopes of interest from potential interferences can be achieved.
The instrument is characterized by high sensitivity, a wide linear dynamic range, and the capability for simultaneous determination of 50 elements (multielement analysis). It is equipped with an autosampler, enabling automated measurement of a large number of samples.
