Local Area Network Construction in the Institute

For the purpose of rebuilding of the Institute’s obsolete local area network, it was necessary to redesign the network architecture and to make an investment programme. The project was divided into three phases: the optic infrastructure between 28 objects, the active network equipment and the cabling within the objects. The Gb Ethernet computer network design was carried out by a new method of dynamic design using a topological database with AutoCADbased graphic presentation. A new type of hybrid (SM/MM) optic cable was developed to increase the low-latency transfer speed for demanding network applications in the future. The topology and the active equipment were designed to optimise the network and allow for its maximum configurability. The local cabling allows for 3500 UTP connections on all of the Institute’s objects, totalling 120 km in length.
