The EuroCC3 project is the third phase of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking's flagship initiative aimed at consolidating and strengthening the network of National Competence Centres (NCCs) for High Performance Computing across Europe. Building on the achievements of EuroCC and EuroCC 2, the project continues to support 36 NCCs across EuroHPC Participating States, acting as one-stop shops for HPC-related expertise, services, and training.

Within the Croatian National Competence Centre for HPC (NCC Croatia), the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI) – through its Centre for Informatics and Computing (CIR) – participates as a national partner alongside the lead partner, the University Computing Centre – SRCE. CIR contributes to the NCC Croatia mission with a focus on bridging the gap between supercomputing capabilities and the needs of Croatian industry, academia, and the public sector.

Role of the Ruđer Bošković Institute in EuroCC3

The Centre for Informatics and Computing at RBI is involved in a range of activities within EuroCC3, including:

• Knowledge transfer to industry and academia – delivering specialised HPC training and educational programmes tailored to the needs of Croatian users
• Dissemination and outreach – participating in national and European dissemination events to promote the uptake of HPC technologies
• Co-design services – providing expert support for the co-design and optimisation of applications for HPC and emerging computing architectures
• Access to EuroHPC infrastructure – facilitating and supporting access to European supercomputing resources for Croatian researchers and companies
• Mapping regional user needs – identifying and analysing the HPC requirements of the Croatian research and industrial ecosystem
• International collaboration – establishing and strengthening collaboration with other NCCs, research institutes, and companies across the region and Europe in the domain of HPC, high-performance data analytics (HPDA), and artificial intelligence (AI)

About the EuroCC initiative

The EuroCC initiative, funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking through the Digital Europe Programme and co-funded by the EuroHPC Participating States, aims to make Europe a world leader in supercomputing by ensuring that HPC expertise and resources are accessible across all member states. The NCCs serve as central hubs for coordinating national HPC activities and enabling synergies with related European initiatives such as AI Factories, Centres of Excellence, the EuroHPC Virtual Training Academy (EVITA), and European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs).
