Charter MIPRO award given to Karolj Skala

Charter winner Karolj Skala with Jadranko Novak

MIPRO: Since when and why you are an active member of MIPRO?
Skala: for 36 years I had various forms of collaboration and presence at MIPRO and to me its an honor, commitment, pride, challenge and satisfaction! Anyone who cherishes ICT as a profession must be networked in various associations, expert groups, project consortiums or in other words to they have to be professionally networked because open principle, mobility and globalization asks for it.
Today, social affiliation is part of life's necessities. There are three categories of association: political parties, professional associations or social networks. Membership in the party is motivated by personal interests and government, but with the association, the motivation is professional interest and collegial friendship, and social networks are used for entertainment and mass gatherings.
Today we live in the extreme dynamics of development of ICT profession and that offers great creative possibilities in which knowledge, innovation and creativity are essential. Therefore, because of the above categories, associations are the choice of fair, well-meaning and perspective people. Our MIPRO is an ideal breeding ground that we are developing for the profession, for collegial friendships and perspectives, MIPRO is a creative platform and environment. Mission of MIPRO is carried out not only for our members but the broader, internationally, to create the ideology of vocational development on the basis of progress and strategic support.

MIPRO : What kind of perspective do you see in the development MIPRO?
Skala: We are all members of MIPRO for several decades now and we have survived the various phases of change. I believe that MIPRO at the threshold of its 40th anniversary is going into a new phase of development and proving the above hypothesis at the time when the parties are extremely compromised and are beginning to fade, while professional associations are slowly maturing taking over the responsibility of social development. Therefore MIPRO has a chance to become a respectable factor in the development of society and the profession if we can maintain and develop the principles implemented by the president of the program committee prof . Biljanović. It is the synchronization of action and responsibilities with a progressive focus. In this light, it is demonstrated that the established model of work at MIPRO has potential, but that there is still room for improvement and new breakthroughs.

MIPRO : What changes and advances are yuo talking about?
Skala: MIPRO is a recognizable and a respectable ICT association in Central Europe and also has an integration factor in the region and operates globalaly. "MIPRO Friends " from abroad should become a national contact point ( National Contact Points; MIPRO-NCP ), which would represent MIPRO in their country. They would have certain rights and duties in the operation and expansion of the MIPRO network in EU .

If MIPRO where to be profiled as a EU recognized ICT networked society, it may expand its activities and program orientation in new areas.

MIPRO: What are your future plans?
Skala: Currently my Center for Informatics and Computing at the Ruder Boskovic Institute is a part of three EU H2020 projects and is waiting for the result of four new proposals. One of these new proposals is the structural disintegration of Cloud Computing on Fog and Dew Computing. This last terminology organization originated from us and at this year's MIPRO we announced it in a form of invited lecture. We plan to organize a Dew Computing Workshop at the University of Prince Edward in Canada, issue a special number at the end of the year in the journal "Open Journal of Cloud Computing" and if the project DewCom gets accepted, we will coordinate an EU consortium that is composed from nine institutions from EU that will be working on developing the "Dew Computing" as a ground layer of Cloud Computing.
ICT was never more powerful and more perspective as a generic profession leading the technology and as a platform of new industrial revolution and life remodeling. Therefore, responsibility and perspective of MIPRO is growing every day and becomeing more powerful and our role significant.
